Intimate Partner Violence in Denmark: a Study of Offending Patterns Based on Official Statistics

Abstract Danish studies of intimate partner violence ( ipv ) using police data are scarce, in part because access to records had been limited. The present study reduces critical gaps the scholarly literature by examining offending patterns Denmark, nearly 10,000 incidents reported North Zealand Police, Denmark (2015–2019). We explore a common framework for analysing , observing (a) frequency, (b) severity, (c) intermittency, (d) escalation, and (e) concentrations . Harm is estimated Crime Index, which based on sentencing guidelines as an objective rod estimating severity. Findings support gender-based explanation with males causing considerably more higher harm than female offenders. Furthermore, likelihood re-offending only predicable not 1/3 offender population rarely high-harm they usually have no prior or subsequent contact police. While there tendency towards escalation between contacts all offenders, such consistent pattern discernible offenders who cause serious their victims. Implications policy future research discussed.
